Official Refuweegee Merchandise
We are so excited to launch these new Refuweegee t-shirts designed by our pal @negativedestination. With black squares on social media feeling a little like a distant memory we wanted to launch these to bring that discussion back to the forefront. And there’s nothing like explaining what a jobby is to get a conversation going!
We also wanted to make sure that we were doing everything possible to ensure that black voices can be heard and are being listened to. We want these t shirts to be a conversation starter but also raise funds to make a real difference in our ever-increasingly digital space. With more and more conversations taking place online creating safe digital spaces is critical. Online abuse such as harassment, hate speech and now zoom bombing is on the rise and has worsened during COVID and lockdown. Women were 27 times more likely to be harassed online than men and this was significantly worse for Black women and LGBT+ women. That’s why these t shirts will be raising funds for both Refuweegee and Glitch.
“Glitch was founded by Seyi Akiwowo, in 2017 after experiencing horrendous online violence. Glitch delivers free workshops on digital citizenship for young people and digital self care, safety and defence to thousands of people across the UK and worldwide. While raising awareness of how people with intersecting different identities are disproportionately impacted by online abuse, we also advocate for long term systematic change from both tech companies and governments who must do more to tackle online abuse. Such work has been recognised in UK Parliament, EU Parliament, and we have also presented at the United Nations Human Rights Council.”
With the increase in internet usage and technology shaping our everyday interactions, it’s crucial that we can work harder to tackle harms that exist in our online spaces and hold tech companies to account. But Glitch can’t do this without your support! The money raised from these T-shirts will help them to continue hosting free online workshops to equip people with skills to better protect themselves online and push for long term change. You can find out all about their Summer 2020 programme by giving them a follow and checking out their website and you can support us both by buying a t shirt through the link in our bio!
